A traveler sees what he sees, a tourist sees what he has come to see.

For travellers very often there is not much time to see anything else than what he has to do. For a tourist there is a lot more to do than only travel…

The traveller might have some more fun – but the tourist is the one, who’s getting the money to the area he’s visiting. Very often, backpacking is abusing the weak currency or the miserable situation of the area.
I’m also a backpacker/traveller and I feel better that way, but I don’t think, we should forget, that travelling cheap has a hidden cost – and that it’s not necessarily us, who pay this bill.

Good points. However, remember: travelers start spreading the word about places that the tourists will visit and sustain with their money. :)
